Description
With established expertise in civil engineering — drilling, blasting, aggregate production, excavation, culvert and guardrail installation, road and airport rehabilitation in Nunavik — Construction Gély Inc. brought its workers together to rehabilitate the Salluit airport access road for the MTQ.
Through this contract, the permafrost mitigation pilot project of the Centre d’études nordiques (CEN, Université Laval) became reality. Implementation involved installing optical fibre, thermal drains, ventilation chimneys and various instruments, while working around road and air traffic constraints.
The elevation change exceeded 100 m over 1 km. The team worked with Salluit residents to limit disruption on the main road linking the airport to the community. Despite the rainy 2012 season, the planned schedule was met.
