Description
Ivujivik airport is the northernmost in Quebec. The runway measures 1,190 m by 50 m. The mandate was to fully resurface it with crushed granular material: over 60,000 t of gravel were produced for the site by the blasting and crushing teams.
All runway edge lights were renewed, including underground electrical cables and the control panels inside the main building. A motorized, automatic horizontal-sliding gate was installed, with a snow shelter.
The access road linking the airport to the community received targeted corrections: softened slopes, a clay geomembrane upstream of culverts to preserve the permafrost, improved drainage and an experimental surface treatment.
